Rafael Nadal has announced his withdrawal from the Paris Masters after he suffered a knee injury during his third round match with Pablo Cuevas.
The World number one suffered the injury during the second set of his match with the Uruguayan and after eventually winning that match, he has now decided he cannot continue in the tournament.
The Spaniard has yet to win at the Paris masters and it looked like he would end that run here as the courts are much slower than they usually are.
However Nadal has a long past with knee injuries and has decided it is best to rest the knee heading into the ATP Nitto finals in London, which starts a week on Sunday.
However the Spaniard will see this week as a very successful week as he managed to grab the end of year world number one ranking for a fourth time in his career.
Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal means Serbian Filip Krajinovic gets a walkover into the Semi-Finals of a masters 1000 event for the first time. He will play either John Isner or Juan Martin Del Potro on Saturday.
