Rafael Nadal received an injury boost from his doctor in Spain ahead of the ATP World Tour Finals in London.
The world number one headed to Barcelona on Friday afternoon as he visited his doctor, Angel Ruiz Cotorro, for an evaluation on his right knee.
The Spaniard had to pull out of the Paris Masters on Friday due to the injury as he looked to rest up for the season ending finale in London in a couple of weeks.
After an evaluation and an ultrasound it was revealed that the Spaniard had suffered the same injury that he picked up during the Shanghai masters in October.
“It is not a new injury or an injury that has worsened. It’s not a different situation than when we came from the Asian tour. All the images from the tests tell us that it is the same tendon that is suffering.” explained Cotorro as Nadal has suffered a long season with a lot of matches played.
However he did also say that Nadal and his fans will have to play a waiting game to see if he is fit for London, “The problem of the tendons in different situations that may bother more than other situations. He will try to play in London. If he is well then he will play. You will have to see how it evolves over the next few days.”
Nadal will now begin a treatment that combines physiotherapy, rehabilitation and muscle strengthening in Mallorca and has eight days to recover before the last tournament of the season in London.
