Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo qualify for the Semi-Finals of the ATP World Tour Finals after their 6-4 6-3 victory over the Bryan Brothers.
The year end world number ones grabbed the early advantage over the legendary American team as intelligent Kubot returning gave them the break for a 2-1 lead.
The accurate serving style of the Wimbledon champions was difficult for the Bryan Brothers to digest and cope with in the first set as they failed to create any break points.
Both teams continued their remarkable service games as the former five time champions forced the Polish-Brazilian combination to serve for the first set.
The top seeds continued to attack the middle of the net and force a new style of doubles upon the Bryan’s as they grabbed the opening set 6-4.
The second set was evenly contested as the American pairing avoided the same fate of the first opening few games of the match. However they couldn’t obey their opponents despite saving four break points in the fifth game.
A simply sensational Marcelo Melo was on fire as he led his team to two successful breaks of serve to claim the match in just over an hour.
The win now means that Kubot and Melo have qualified for the Semi-Finals and can secure top place in the group with a win on Friday.
While Bob and Mike Bryan will have to win on Friday and hope Kubot and Melo do them a favour to progress to the Semi-Finals.
Meanwhile in the other match of the Woodbridge/Woodforde group, Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares thrashed Ivan Dodig and Marcel Granollers 6-1 6-1 in 52 minutes.
The fourth seeds broke four times and didn’t face a single break point en route to thrashing Dodig and Granollers. The result means that the Croatian-Spanish pair are out and will play their last match on Friday.
While Murray and Soares can still qualify and even finish top of their group. Here are the permutations heading into Friday’s matches:
