Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro has admitted that he is suffering from pain in a number of areas after his extended period of play in the latter part of the season. The popular figure made lengthy runs at a number of tournaments at the end of the season as he chased an unlikely place at the Nitto ATP Finals.
Del Potro: “I‘m going to Tandil. I have pain in my back, legs, it’s not just my wrist. It’s a nice pain, because it’s the pain that comes from competing, from winning matches, and it’s something I long for so much. When you have concerns, these are difficult players to play against.”
There should be relief for del Potro fans, as though the Argentine’s injury troubles are well documented, it sounds as if these pains are related more to his extended period of play towards the end of the season, and it is likely that the end-of-season break has come at an opportune moment for the former US Open winner.
The Tandil native came within a single win of reaching the London tournament. He fell at the last in the Paris Masters quarter-finals to John Isner.
Del Potro end of season form:
Shanghai Masters: SF (l. to Federer)
Stockholm: W (defeated Dimitrov in final)
Basel: F (l. to Federer)
Paris-Bercy Masters: QF (l. to Isner)
