The World number 18 has decided to end his 2017 season earlier than expected and will miss the last two tournaments of the year in Vienna and Paris.
The former Wimbledon finalist has revealed that he has been suffering from back pain since Wimbledon and will now miss the last two tournaments of the year to prepare for the 2018 season and the Australian Open.
Berdych reached the Semi-Finals of Wimbledon this season and his best result was reaching the final in Lyon, where he lost to Jo-Wilfred Tsonga.
Here is what the Czech Republican had to say:
”I have been playing matches with back pain since Wimbledon and in my last match in Beijing, I felt it was not getting better and I was advised by my medical team to give it a few weeks rest and to have rest, in order to be completely healthy and ready to compete at the start of 2018.”
It is dissapointing news for Berdych who would have liked to finish the year strongly and give himself some momentum heading into 2018.
He went on to add that he will miss Vienna and Paris, as he hopes to compete at the 2018 Australian Open.
Tomas Berdych won 35 out of his 54 matches in 2017, where he didn’t win a single title
