Roger Federer feels rested and prepared heading into the rest of the 2017 season as he spoke to the press ahead of the Shanghai Rolex Masters.
The Swiss maestro revealed how he feels more rested and prepared heading into the rest of the 2017 season than previous year, ‘The nine weeks I had off during the clay court season wasn’t something I had originally planned. Only when I won the Australian Open, Indian Wells and Miami, that I decided to do this. I saved myself for the rest of the season.’
The 2014 champion also revealed how Shanghai always brings a unique and special atmosphere, ‘It’s a special atmosphere at these Asian tournaments. I love the tournament and I aim to make Shanghai a priority to win, my fans are incredibly supportive.’
The 19 time grand slam champion will hope to use this tournament as a stepping stone to become the year end World number one, where he aims to catch up with Rafael Nadal at the top of the world rankings and he is excited about the challenge. ‘Excitement is building. Hopefully, I will be match ready, I can’t wait for Wednesday’s match and the challenges ahead.’
The 36 year old hopes to win his sixth title of the season and his first since Wimbledon when he begins his Shanghai campaign against Diego Schwartzman or Jordan Thompson.
