Jennifer Brady upsets Shuai Zhang, as Caroline Wozniacki and Elina Svitolina withdraw from Hong Kong
US Jennifer Brady stunned eighth seed Shuai Zhang with a 6-3 6-4 win in the second round match at the Hong Kong Open. Brady converted four of the six break points on Zhang’s serve and won 65% of her second service points to Zhang’s 33 %. Brady will face a quarter final against Nicole Gibbs, who received a walkover after world number 4 Elina Svitolina withdrew from the tournament due to a right leg injury.
Qiang Wang beat Luksika Kumkhum from Thailand 6-4 6-4 after 80 minutes setting up a quarter final match against Samantha Stosur, who knocked out Agnieszka Radwanska in the second round on Wednesday.
Caroline Wozniacki also withdrew before her match against Lizette Cabrera due to an elbow injury. Cabrera will take on seventh seed Daria Gavrilova in the quarter final.
