Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki has hit back at Maria Sharapova’s agent, Max Eisenbud and claims that he is ‘scared’ to see her.
The vice-president of IMG released a statement back in April claiming that Wozniacki and other players were ‘Journeyman players’, which was not warmly received by the slamless Dane.
The statement that Eisenbud made was the following, “All those ‘Journeyman’ players like Radwanska and Wozniacki have never won a slam and the next generation are passing, they are smart they don’t want Maria in Paris [French Open]. This is their last chance to win a slam”
Despite being reprimanded by the WTA tour for his behaviour he has yet to withdraw his statement and this behaviour has not been received well by Wozniacki.
In a recent interview, the two time grand slam finalist, expressed her dismay as Eisenbud’s actions, “He is scared to see me. I walk in the player lounge and he will literally walk the other way. I think this is embarrassing for him since he is one of the head people at IMG.”
She also was frustrated that she didn’t receive a face-to-face apology, “All I wanted from him was an apology to my face and he never stepped up and ‘sorry’. I don’t have any hard feelings if he came up to me and said, ‘I’m sorry, I made a mistake’, I would say, ‘No problem, no big deal’. But it’s been a long time and I’m still waiting.”
It is clear that Wozniacki still feels hurt by Eisenbud’s comments and will await an apology from the IMG Vice-President.
This is of course not the only time Wozniacki and Sharapove have had their issues as in August, the Dane criticised the US Open for putting all of Sharapova’s matches on Arthur Ashe.
Wozniacki will continue her campaign in Singapore, when she plays Simona Halep on Wednesday.
