(VIDEO) Meet Serena Williams’ Baby Girl
12 days after giving birth to her first child, Serena Williams has introduced her baby girl to the world.
Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr was born on September 1st in West Palm Beach, Miami. She weighed in at six pounds and 14 ounces. Williams revealed the first public picture of her baby, who shares the same name as her father, on Wednesday in an Instagram post. The photo showed the 23-time grand slam champion holding Alexis in her arms.
Williams also released a video documenting her journey through pregnancy. The 35-year-old was six weeks pregnant when she played her last match on the WTA Tour, winning the Australian Open in January. The video revealed that Williams spent six days in hospital following the birth of Alexis due to complications.

Despite just welcoming the arrival of her first child, Williams is targeting a return to the tour in January when she will be hoping to defend her Australian Open title. She continued hitting balls on the court throughout the majority of her pregnancy, up to seven months. Coach Patrick Mouratoglou recently confirmed Williams’ goal to Sports Illustrated, but admits that it is far from certain.
“It’ll depend on the date from when she can really be back working at 100%. We’re going to raise the workload progressively and then a day will come where she’ll be able to play and train normally.” He explained.
“The question is: how many weeks like this will we get? If we have enough weeks like that then she’ll be ready. If not, I’ve already told her that we’ll push back her comeback. It wouldn’t be a good idea to go there being at 50%.”
Should she return to the tour in 2018 and win a major title, Williams will join an elite group of players. Kim Clijsters, Margaret Court and Evonne Goolagong have all returned from maternity to win at least one grand slam title.
