US Open finalist Madison Keys has withdrawn from next week’s China Open due to an ongoing wrist injury.

Earlier in the week, the world No.11 revelled that she made have to adjust her schedule for the rest of the year due to her left wrist. At the Wuhan Open she required a medical time out during her straight sets loss to Varvara Lepchenko in what was her first match since the US Open.

“I have to see how it is the next couple of days,” she told a small group of reporters. “See how it loosens up and feels better. But I have a pretty intense schedule right now. So we might have to go back to the drawing board a little bit on that.”

Keys has already undergone two surgical procedures on her left wrist. The first was last December followed by another one in May after the French Open. Since her second surgery, she has managed to win her third WTA title at the Stanford Open in August.

As well as the remainder of the WTA Tour, the 22-year-old may also have to fulfil Fed Cup duties. America will take on Belarus in the final of the competition later this year. In a statement published on Friday, the American said her withdrawal from Beijing is due to ‘continued pain’ in her wrist.

“I am so sorry, due to my continued left wrist pain I am going to have to withdraw from the Beijing Open. I always look forward to coming to China and I look forward to coming back next year.” Said Keys, who is right handed but plays with a double-handed backhand.

The China Open, which is a Premier mandatory event, is set to feature nine out of the world’s top 10 players with Venus Williams being the only exception. Agnieszka Radwanska, who is yet to win a title in 2017, is the defending champion.
