Despite the Saturday draw being leaked before the official Press Conference, the much anticipated talk about whether Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal would play doubles together for Team Europe at the Laver Cup, came to an end on Saturday morning here in Prague. They WILL play together. Cancel your plans for Saturday night because Federer & Nadal will join forces for the first time in the final match of the day as they face the World Team duo Sam Querrey and Jack Sock.
From the time the event was created last year and Nadal agreed to take part, this doubles pairing had been wished for by tennis fans around the world. A look at the games greatest players, if not the greatest of all time taking their 35 Grand Titles on to the court at the same time but this time on the same side of the net.
Nadal and Federer may have a combined for 167 singles titles but both have been successful doubles players as well. Nadal won last years Doubles title at the Rio Summer Games with Pablo Carreno Busta, one of 11 career doubles titles. He has also been a part of four Davis Cup titles for Spain some of which he played doubles in. Federer won his Olympic Gold in doubles at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing and won his doubles match helping lead Switzerland to the Davis Cup crown three years ago. He has lifted eight ATP doubles trophies in his career.
After a highly entertaining opening day, the Laver Cup just got better on Day 2.
Federer will play singles against Sam Querrey in the opening match of the Day at the Laver Cup at 1pm local time, 7am ET followed by another singles clash between Nadal and Sock. The first night match will have Tomas Berdych facing Nick Kyrgios at 7pm local time followed by Federer and Nadal facing Querrey and Sock.
