6th seed Dominic Thiem is through to the fourth round of the US Open after recording a straight sets win over French 30th seed Adrian Mannarino. The Austrian recovered from a slow start to win 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.

Left-hander Mannarino came out of the blocks firing, securing an early break to lead 2-0. Thiem slowly found his way into the set and eventually broke back as the Frenchman attempted to serve for the set. Thiem held, then broke again to seal the set 7-5.

Thiem was now on a roll, and the Austrian consolidated his strong position with an immediate break in the second set. It was a run of seven straight games for Thiem dating back to the first set before Mannarino was finally able to grab a hold of serve.

Thiem quickly ensured that any ideas Mannarino had of mounting a comeback were quickly thwarted by breaking in the opening game of the third set. It then went with serve the rest of the way as Thiem recorded a straight sets win for the first time since the first round.

Thiem will face the winner of the match between Roberto Bautista Agut and Juan Martin del Potro, in what is likely to be one of the most tightly contested third round encounters.

In other matches, Alexandr Dolgopolov continued his fine form by thrashing Viktor Troicki 6-1, 6-0, 6-4. The Ukrainian had dispatched 15th seed Tomas Berdych in the second round and was barely troubled by Troicki.

Philipp Kohlschreiber had a similar match to Thiem in that he recovered from a poor start to earn a comprehensive win. He faced Nick Kyrgios’ conqueror John Millman. The Australian got off to a good start with an early break, but Kohlschreiber eventually won through 7-5, 6-2, 6-4.

David Goffin vs Gael Monfils, Rafael Nadal vs Leonardo Mayer, and Roger Federer vs Feliciano Lopez are highlight draws of the later third round matches.
