After reaching his first ever Masters 1000 final in Cincinnati, Grigor Dimitrov was talking about a somewhat different topic during his post-match press conference.
The praise Dimitrov received extended beyond the court when one journalist described the Bulgarian as ‘one of the most handsome guys to ever play tennis.’ Taken back by the unexpected question, Dimitrov took it in his stride he he grinned and joked back to the reporter. He was then put on the spot when asked who he thought the best looking male player in tennis was.
“A lot of people think you’re the most handsome guy on tour, perhaps the most handsome guy to ever play tennis,” the reporter said. “Who do you think is the most handsome guy on tour? If it is you, so be it.”
Caught off guard, the 26-year-old paused and looked towards the media officer for help. After a few seconds of reflection, Dimitrov gave Feliciano Lopez as his answer. The 6’2” player from Spain, who has won six ATP titles so far in his career.
“I have always be an admirer of Feli,” Dimitrov said. “I like this guy a lot. He’s just — I mean, every time — he’s like, fit and good and his long hair and the beard.
“I’m like, dude you do good. Like, I wish I had his legs. His calves, man. He’s strong. Every time walking towards the showers, I’m like, show me those calves again. He starts laughing at me.”
It is not the first time that 35-year-old Lopez has caught the eyes of others for his looks. During his career, he has earned the nickname ‘deliciano’ Lopez. Although, the Spaniard hasn’t always been so thrilled about the attention he has received.
“I’m not a model, I’m a tennis player,” he once stated to El Comercio.
