Over the past week we have seen the good and bad sides of Nick Kyrgios in Washington and Montreal. His curious attitude continues to intrigue the tennis world as even he is yet to know which Nick Kyrgios to trust.
Nick Kyrgios is a polarising figure as we can often see the good side and the bad side of Kyrgios when he plays his tennis. This week is no different as last week in Washington he withdrew from his second round match against Tennys Sandgren with relative ease due to a shoulder injury. During the match he was seen saying towards his team that he didn’t want to be there.
However in the world of the controversial Australian his attitude can often change as he admitted in his press conference today after his 6-1 6-2 win over Viktor Troicki in Montreal. ‘Some days I want to play, some days I don’t, today was ok.’ Kyrgios explained as it is clear that the level of his performance depends on his mental attitude. Kyrgios can also be portrayed as the good guy in tennis as he showed in one of his latest tweets, which you can see below:

This shows that he can also become a role model for the younger generation, while occasionally being erratic with his behaviour on the court. Of course being booed off the court like last week doesn’t help his image but small gestures like this will make a big difference in winning a few fans along the way.
Also after the match he explained that he doesn’t really care about what the media write about him and fellow player Bernard Tomic, ‘Me and Bernard have been the best two players from Australia in the past five years. The media can write what they want.’ It is clear that he doesn’t really care what the media perception is of him and that he will just be himself.
The curious world of Nick Kyrgios will continue for years to come, the good and the bad. I guess tennis fans will have to get used to it and see if they approve of his behaviour because the honest truth of it is nobody, not even Nick, knows which side of him will turn up on any given day
