Thanasi Kokkinakis says that unexpected consistency is the key to his brilliant week in Los Cabos as he beat Tomas Berdych 3-6 7-6(5) 6-4 to reach his first ATP World Tour final.

Since his comeback in May the 21 year old Australian has made his mark on the ATP World Tour. First he beat Milos Raonic at Queens Club in London in June and now he has made his maiden final on the ATP tour in Los Cabos. The now World number 454 hit 17 aces and won 39 out of 46 first service points to beat the top seed in 2 hours and 18 minutes.

Kokkinakis put his form this week down to consistency and is looking forward to the prospect of playing in his first final, ‘I showed some glimpses of good tennis this year, so to do that consistently this week in Los Cabos means a lot, I’ve had great support from the fans here all week. I love it here and I’ll definitely be coming back a few more times.’

It is clear to see that Kokkinakis has a big game to thrive on the ATP World Tour and has the potential to become a future top 10 player. It is good to see the Australian making strides on the tour and putting consistency together to make a potential title run. If he can stay fit he has the mental toughness to be better than Kyrgios and Tomic, as a result become Australia’s next big star.

In the final Kokkinakis will play second seed Sam Querrey in the final as the American beat Damir Dzumhur 3-6 6-4 6-4 in 1 hour and 42 minutes. The Wimbledon Semi-Finalist also served 17 aces en route to victory as he searches for a second successive win in Mexico after his win in Acapulco in February.

After the win Querrey praised his opponent and explained that he is playing much better than he did two years ago in Madrid, when they last played, ‘He’s obviously playing much better now. He’s hitting his forehand big and played really well against Berdych, He’s playing loose and tournaments don’t get any easier from here, so it’s going to be a tough match.’

There is a lot to play for Kokkinakis as a win could see him rise as high as around the 15o mark in the upcoming ATP World Tour rankings.
