Andy Murray is set to return to the tour at the US Open later this month, according to a report by The Guardian.

The three-time grand slam champion hasn’t played a match on the tour since his quarter-final loss to Sam Querrey at Wimbledon. Murray’s absence has been due to a troublesome hip injury, which required extensive rehabilitation. In recent weeks he withdrew from events in Montreal and Cincinnati as part of his ongoing injury battle.

“I’m continuing to work hard on the court with the aim of being in New York,” Murray said last week.

According to reports, the 30-year-old is set to travel to America next week, barring any setbacks. Murray will be seeded second at the US Open after being overtaken in the world rankings by Rafael Nadal, who will officially become world No.1 on Monday.

Heading into the final major of the year, the Brit has won 25 out of 35 matches played on the tour this season. Murray’s only title occurred in February at the Dubai Tennis Championships, when he defeated Fernando Verdasco in the final.

This year’s US Open is set to have a series of big names missing from the men’s draw. Both Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka have ended their seasons due to injury. Djokovic is nursing an elbow injury and Wawrinka recently underwent surgery on his knee. Meanwhile Kei Nishikori has confirmed that he will not play again this year after injuring his wrist.

There are also doubts over players scheduled to appear at the tournament. Former US Open champion Marin Cilic is struggling with an abductor injury and hasn’t played since the Wimbledon final. Meanwhile, Roger Federer withdrew from this week’s Cincinnati Open due to a back issue.

The tournament at Flushing Meadows will get underway on August 28th.
