World No.1 Andy Murray has moved to try and dissuade worried fans that his hip injury will seriously affect him at Wimbledon.
“It’s felt much better the last few days, I’ve had hip problems since I was very young. Been very sore the last few weeks. If I feel like I do today, I’ll be fine to play the tournament. I’ll be fine to play seven matches.”
The defending champion has struggled in recent weeks since his semi-final at the French Open. He lost to Jordan Thompson, a lucky loser at Queens, and pulled out of two exhibition matches designed to give him more match practices because of the sore hip.
Murray starts with lucky loser Alexander Bublik in the first round.
It remains to be seen if Murray’s comments are genuine and he is truly free of the injury to an extent that it will not hamper his attempts to secure a third Wimbledon crown. Murray has a draw that could see him face talented, but inconsistent players including Dustin Brown and Nick Kyrgios before the quarter-finals.
