Former Wimbledon semi-finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is into the third round of Wimbledon. The Frenchman eased past veteran Italian qualifier Simone Bolelli 6-1, 7-5, 6-2.
Tsonga did not play a flawless game, with some erratic ground-strokes. However, Bolelli rarely threatened and most of the Italian’s chances were borne from Tsonga’s mistakes.
Tsonga will face Sam Querrey in the third round. The American 24th seed won 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. against Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili. Querrey was a quarter-finalist a year ago after he knocked out top seed and defending champion Novak Djokovic in the third round in the shock of the tournament.
18th seed Roberto Bautista Agut is also into the third round. The Spaniard defeated German qualifier Peter Gojowczyk 6-2, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Bautista Agut will face either 9th seed Kei Nishikori or Roger Federer’s 2013 vanquisher Sergiy Stakhovsky.
In the last first round match held over from Tuesday Paolo Lorenzi took out Horacio Zeballos 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 7-5. Zeballos had led 4-2 in the fourth but Lorenzi rattled off five of the last six games to move into round two. Lorenzi will play American Jared Donaldson in the second round. The American had an easy passage into round two after Janko Tipsarevic retired when down 0-5 in the first set.
