Novak Djokovic is out of Wimbledon after he retired due to an elbow injury when he was 7-6(2) 2-0 down to Tomas Berdych.

Novak Djokovic hadn’t lost a set en route to the Wimbledon Quarter-Finals and didn’t plan to start now against a player who he has beaten 25 times out of the 27 matches that he and Tomas Berdych have played. It was the hard hitting of Berdych versus the incredible defensive work of Djokovic. The Czech Republican hit some very good angles and served well to try and break down the barriers of Djokovic.

His aim was also to finish points off  at the net to prevent long rallies from happening. No break points were created in the first set as it went to a tiebreak. The 2011 finalist outplayed the world number four to take the tiebreak 7-2.

It was clear Djokovic was struggling with an elbow injury and after he was broken in the second game of the match, he could no longer continue and retired from his match. It is a great shame as he would of seen a real opportunity to win the title and reclaim the world number one spot after Andy Murray’s exit today.

After the match Novak Djokovic revealed that the injury had bothered him for quite some time, ‘It has bothered me for a year and a half on and off. Obviously I haven’t felt this much injury since I had it. So it’s not a good sign.’

He is also considering time away from the sport, ‘Well, I was. To be honest, I was. I mean, the specialists that I’ve talked with, they haven’t been really too clear, mentioning also surgery, mentioning different options. Nobody was very clear in what needs to be done. I may not play for the rest of the year.’

Tomas Berdych will play Roger Federer or Milos Raonic in the Semi-Finals on Friday.
