Canadian wild card Bianca Andreescu came back from one set down to edge Camila Giorgi 5-7 6-3 6-4 after two hours and three minutes in the first round of the WTA International Tournament in Washington.
Andreescu saved two break points in the third game of the opening set to take a 2-1 lead. The match went on serve with no break points until the 10th game. Giorgi broke serve to 15 with a backhand winner to take the 6-5 edge to earn the chance to serve for the set. The Italian held her serve to 15 with a forehand winner on her set point to close out the opening set 7-5.
Giorgi started the second set with an early break. Andreescu broke straight back to 15 in the second game. The 17-year-old Canadian broke serve in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead. She served out to love to win the second set 6-3.
Giorgi made a double fault on the break point to drop her serve in the first game of the decider. Giorgi broke straight back to 15 to draw level to 1-1. In the fifth game Andreescu broke again to take a 3-2 lead but Giorgi broke straight back and held her serve to take the 4-3 lead. Andreescu broke serve to 30 to earn her chance to serve for the match at 5-4. She served out for the match in the next game to win the third set 6-4.
