Andy Murray is showing signs of improvement in his fitness ahead of the final grand slam tournament of the season.

The world No.1 hasn’t played on the tour since his quarter-final loss to Sam Querrey at Wimbledon. In recent weeks the Brit has been troubled by a hip injury which hampered his preparations for SW19.

“The whole tournament I’ve been a little bit sore. But I tried my best right to the end. I gave everything I had. I’m proud about that.” Murray said following his Wimbledon exit.

During his injury rehabilitation process, the 30-year-old recently travelled to Switzerland to undergo a medical assessment of his hip. There has been no official comment on what the doctor told Murray, but there are indications that his form is improving. On Monday he uploaded a Instagram video of himself playing tennis against a wall.

Murray has also posted a photo on himself with his physio during a swimming pool rehab session, poking fun at the outfit they were both wearing.

Yet to publicly speak about the injury since Wimbledon, it remains unclear as to when Murray will return to the tour. According to his schedule the next tournament for the Brit will be the Roger Cup in Canada. That tournament will get underway on 7th August.

Murray’s main aim is to be fully fit time for the US Open, where he won his first grand slam title back in 2012. Last year he reached the last eight before losing to Japan’s Kei Nishikori. This year’s tournament is almost certain to be without Novak Djokovic, who is nursing a bruised bone in his elbow. According to a Serbian doctor that evaluated him injury, he is “99% likely” to miss the major. Djokovic will host a press conference in Belgrade on Wednesday.

The second half of the season is crucial for Murray, who has a total of 7,750 ranking points to defend (more than any other player on the ATP Tour). Last year he won five titles between October – November, including the prestigious ATP World Tour Finals in London. He is currently clinging onto his world No.1 by only 285 points.
