Agnieszka Radwanska saved two match points en route to a 5-7 7-6(7) 6-3 victory over America’s Christina Mchale.
The ninth seed battled past Mchale with intelligent play and luck on the way. The American tried to use her power to break down the former finalist however the Pole used her determination to outlast the American. Radwanska, who has had a horrendous season filled with injuries and lack of confidence battled in this match to secure a much needed victory. She will hope to use the confidence in the later rounds and she will try to use the tennis that earned her a spot in the final in 2012.
Mchale will be disappointed that she didn’t use her bold power game more often in the crucial points which could have sealed the match and a historic win on Court three. Radwanska forced errors of Mchale which she should have dealt with more easily.
Agnieszka Radwanska will now play either Kristina Kucova or Timea Bacsinszky in the third round on Saturday.
