Tomas Berdych and Goran Ivanisevic have ended their ‘super coach-player’ partnership after less than a year of working together.

Berdych released a statement informing fans that the partnership with the former Wimbledon winner had come to an end.

The move comes in the wake of Berdych struggling in consecutive grand slam events. In January he had the misfortune to draw Roger Federer as early as the third round on account of Federer’s extended absence due to injury. He was soundly beaten by the eventual winner. Yet the struggles have continued outside of slams, with Berdych just once reaching the quarter-finals of a Masters 1000 event this season (with four played.)

Berdych’s current ranking of No.14 is his lowest since May 2010. It is due to fall further still on account of Berdych failing to defend his quarter-final points from last year. Berdych will be under further pressure to defend a significant number of points on grass. He was a Wimbledon semi-finalist year, losing to eventual champion Andy Murray in straight sets.

Ivanisevic has a good track record as a coach. During his partnership with fellow Croatian Marin Cilic, he led Cilic to his to date only grand slam title at the US Open.
