Germany’s Tobias Kamke failed to shake Adrian Menendez-Macieras hand after the Spaniard knocked him out of the event 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Kamke had won the first set, but then lost the next two. Kamke had received an unsportsmanlike conduct warning after launching a ball into the air earlier in the match. He then had an altercation as he departed the venue.

Menendez-Macieras moves into the second round of qualifying, where he will face Simone Bolelli.

Menendez-Macieras and Kamke have seen their respective careers take dramatics turns over recent years. Kamke had held a Top 100 ranking but saw it slip to outside the Top 150.

Menendez-Maiceras meanwhile, won his first Challenger title for a decade when he won in Leon. he then followed that up with a runner-up showing in San Luis Potosi, and another title in Samarkand.

Menendez-Maiceras compatriot Roberto Carballes Baena fared less well, losing 7-6, 6-4 to Jozef Kovalik. Federico Gaio also lost to Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann. Vincent Millot defeated another Italian, Stefano Napolitano, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.
