Garbine Muguruza broke down in tears after her fourth round defeat today at Roland Garros.
The defending champion was emotional during her press conference as she had to speak about her defeat to her controversial opponent. The Spaniard had to speak about the disrespectful crowd during the interview and how disappointed she was to go out early in the second week. Here are some of the quotes of what she said and how she fell to tears during the press conference:
Muguruza On The Court
‘Well, I think the crowd was obviously tough for me. I understand. I just think they were sometimes a little bit disrespectful. The chair umpire has to always calm the crowd. I’m not here to create enemies. I mean, I love playing here. Is not a good feeling so…..’
‘I wasn’t expecting to play on that court. I had so many matches on Lenglen. I had big wins and big loss, so it didn’t really matter. I just think it was a tricky round. Nothing went my way today.’
Muguruza On Nerves
‘I obviously was a little bit nervous. Through the match I was getting more and more. Also because the feeling. So it’s true that I couldn’t really find my game, but I don’t think I did really something wrong out there. You know, I just think it went to her side and that’s all.’

Muguruza on Emotion And Next Steps
‘I think it’s just a mix, you know. I went out there and it was a tough match, I have to say. I mean I’m disappointed because it didn’t go my way. It was just tough to be out on court, honestly. I am disappointed with the defeat.
‘ I’m kinda happy that this stage of the season is over because I wanted to go as far as possible. I think I’m going to feel much better now to continue this year and everybody is going to stop asking about this tournament.‘
Garbine Muguruza was obviously frustrated with the crowd and her performance today. Here is footage of her showing that to the crowd on Suzanne Lenglen:
