10th seed David Goffin has had to withdraw from Roland Garros after he suffered a nasty injury during his third round match with Horacio Zeballos.

Well before the injury the Belgian played some really good tennis, moving well as he raced to a 4-2 lead over the Argentinian. The Belgian, who has been one of the best clay court players of 2017 kept his composure and dictated play with his forehand to impose himself on the match. In the tenth game Zeballos started to add pressure on Goffin and forced his opponent to work for the set. However just as the match had started to heat up, the injury came. At Deuce, Goffin was chasing a ball, when he tripped over the tarp at the back of the court and fell into a heap. Tears started to flood down the world number 11 and was in a lot of pain, as a result he was helped off court for further examination and was unable to continue.

The injury looked nasty and is a big blow for Goffin and the tournament as the Belgian was one of the outside contenders for the trophy. Hopefully the injury isn’t serious and he can move onto the grass court season. Horacio Zeballos, who carried Goffin’s bags to the locker room, now advances to the fourth round of Roland Garros. He will now play Dominic Thiem or Steve Johnson.
