Caroline Wozniacki advanced to her fourth final of the season after a 6-3 2-6 7-5 victory over Heather Watson as Johanna Konta withdrew from her Semi-Final due to a spinal injury.
It was the Dane who started the brighter as a break to love sealed the early advantage for a 2-1 lead. Things started to unravel quickly for the world number 126 as two more breaks started to follow as Wozniacki used the width on court very well. Wozniack, who has been one of the most consistent players in 2017, wrapped up the first set 6-2 in 33 minutes. Watson needed to eradicate those unforced errors and pointless double faults if she was to have any chance of making the final.
The second set saw the former World number one grab an early break once again in the third game for a 2-1 lead. However the Brit failed to lie down as she broke straight back and came back to lead 3-2. It was clear that Wozniacki was now struggling and went to receive a medical timeout. This would cost the former grand slam finalist who was broken again for 4-2. Less errors and double faults meant that Watson was more comfortable on serve and that allowed her to close out the second set for 6-3 and level the semi-final.
In the final set there was once a break of serve but unlike the first set it was Watson who broke to take a 2-1 lead. However the Brit was against one of the toughest fighters on the tour and Wozniacki broke straight back to love for 2-2 in the second set. Both women were involved in a tennis brawl as they were hitting hard and with extraordinary angles. They both held comfortably as they were stuck at 5-5 in the final set. However a forehand into the net sealed victory for the world numer six, 6-2 3-6 7-5.
Caroline Wozniacki will now enter her fourth final of the season where she will play Karolina Pliskova. Pliskova advanced after Johanna Konta pulled out of their semi-final due to a thoracic spine injury. She suffered the injury on match points in her Quarterfinal against Angelique Kerber. Here is the fall if you missed it:
