Vasek Pospisil has announced that he will miss the second grand slam of the season in Paris at Roland Garros.

The world number 82 from Canada has decided to withdraw from Roland Garros as he feels the need to prepare for the upcoming grass court season. He said on twitter that he ‘is sad to be skipping Roland Garros, #tough decisions’. This is a wise decision as grass is his best surface and has had many successful moments at Wimbledon. In 2014 he won the doubles event in London to win his maiden grand slam title with American Jack Sock as they beat The Bryan Brothers in five sets. The following year he reached the quarterfinals of the singles before crashing out to Andy Murray.

Despite winning a challenger event in Busan, South Korea last week, which was on hard courts, the Canadian has decided to skip the clay courts in search to improve his singles ranking on his preferred surface of grass courts. He was scheduled to play doubles with Pole Martin Matkowski in Paris before announcing his absence from the tournament. Matkowski, who is now 32 in the world in doubles, will now have to find another partner or face withdrawing from the event himself.

Pospisil could now return as soon as the 12th of June to the ATP World Tour.
