Monte-Carlo Tournament Director Zeljko Franulovic held the traditional press conference on the final day of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters to speak with media represesentatives from all over the world abot the tournament’s figures. A total of 135809 spectators attended the tournament during the whole week. The tournament was again a huge success with tickets sold from Monday to Sunday for all the five courts.
“This was a first for us. There were 96 buses chartered by the tennis clubs last Tuesday. This is a record as well. I would like to thank you because, like every year, media representatives came in great numbers to cover the tournament, This year there were 463 accredited journalists representing 18 countries”, said Franulovic.
Franulovic, who won the Monte-Carlo tournament in 1970, announced that there will be renovations next year.
“We want to keep improving the comfort and the quality of our facilities. We can’t improve the number of tickets by much, but we want to improve our infrastructure. This building has been planned for years. We wanted to maximize our facilities without jeopardizing free circulation of the public. We believe the interview room is a bit small. The players complain they have to ge through the crowd to come here. We might put the interview room in that new building. Secondly, we wanted to improve our facilities for TV production, for social media, computers and everything. They have more and more equipment, more and more cables. For the time being, they have to park their trucks outside. Now we have planned a tunnel for them to park in a better place. They will have their TV compound. We will gain free access to the club and improve facilities for the press, the players and the TVs”, said Franulovic.
