An inside look into Serbia’s doubles victory over Spain in the Davis Cup, by Giovanni Vianello

It’s been a thrilling match ending in the fifth and deciding set, but eventually Serbia, who played with Serbia’s Davis Cup captain, Nenad Zimonjic and Viktor Troicki has defeated Spain, that played with Pablo Carreno Busta and Marc Lopez. Serbia has, therefore, secured a spot in the Davis Cup Semifinals.
The first set, although, goes to the Spaniards by 6-4. The Spaniards play consistently and continuously and take the maximum advantage from a break-down of the Serbians in a service game for Serbia. In this beginning of the match, the captain Zimonjic looks a little down in terms of shape, whilst both of the Spanish players appear focused.
In the second set Serbia is in serious trouble, going down a break, but immediately finds the counter-break and finally Zimonjic’s skills start to shine. The set ends in a breaker, in which Serbia prevails by 7-4.
In the third set Spain struggles due to the loss in the deciding game of the second set. Serbia takes advantage from this suffering and so wins the set by 6-0, in a set completely dominated by Zimonjic and Troicki.
The fourth set is much more balanced, only one break-point is seen until the tenth game, when Spain breaks Serbia’s serve and so the Spaniard’s wins the set 6-4, pulling the match to a deciding set.
The fifth set, anyway, looks a lot like the third, it is completely dominated by the Serbians who break the Spain’s serve twice and never lose their serve, winning the set 6-2.

Serbia will play the semifinal in France next September
