Roger Federer talked to a group of journalists in Lenzerheide about his plan for the next few months and his decision about playing Roland Garros.
“We will decide on 10th May at the end of a training period in Dubai. I will sit around the table with my team and we will take a decision about playing on clay or not. It will depend on how I feel physically and mentally. My plani s to play Roland Garros but many things can happen before 10th May. I will travel to Dubai in the next few days. I will follow the results of the clay season but will not watch many matches on television. I have to be well prepared and feel the desire to play a tournament. I don’t play just for the purpose to take part.”
He talked about the grass season and his future after Wimbledon.
“I am planning to continue playing after Wimbledon. I don’t think results will not change m plans. It is not my plan to stop playing after a big tournament”, said Federer.
Federer also told to Swiss newspaper Le Matin about the role of Ivan Ljubicic as the reason why his backhand has become a weapon this year.
“There was a progressive evolution. I didn’t happen through one practice session or because we took a strong decision. I realized I could have improved some things with the new racket already in 2014. Before Severin Luthi and Ivan Ljubicic insisted on a simple concept: Take the ball early especially on return. None is stronger than you inside the baseline. They forced me to have that menatlity. Through these conversations and suiting to the new racket. I started to feel really well on the backhand side at the end of last year. Just to make you realize, I was struggling even to hit slice backhand”.
