Andy Murray is officially confirmed as being unavailable for Davis Cup action against France in the week after the Miami Masters. Murray suffered an elbow tear and will miss likely up to six weeks of action.

Leon Smith, Great Britain’s captain, was bullish about his team’s chances despite Murray’s absence “This is a team with significant Davis Cup experience now and these guys have all stepped up and delivered performances at the very top of the competition. Not having Andy in the side is obviously a big loss to our team but most importantly we all wish him well for a speedy recovery back to full health and fitness. I know that he would really want to be here with the rest of the team. Facing France in a Davis Cup tie is a tough test for any group of players and this Rouen quarter-final will be no exception. They have the strongest depth of squad by far out of any nation in the competition

France, the home team, have selected an indoor clay arena in Rouen and have injury concerns and absences of their own. France are without Gael Monfils through injury, and Jo Wilfried Tsonga is also absent after becoming a father for the first time recently.

Team captain Arnaud Clement has selected Gilles Simon and Lucas Pouille as his singles players, with the formidable doubles pair of Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert also included.

Due to Murray’s absence Smith has selected both Dan Evans and Kyle Edmund to represent Great Britain in the singles, with Jamie Murray and Dominic Inglot for the doubles.
