John McEnroe has recently stated that Milos Raonic has to improve the mental aspect of his game if he wants to win a grand slam title.

The 58 year old American, who has won nine grand slam singles titles has said that Milos Raonic is too mentally weak to win a grand slam title. McEnroe, who has recently coached the tall Canadian went on to say the following in a recent interview, ”I believe it’s more mental. That’s me, that’s what I try to keep telling Milos. But these guys are incredible athletes and Milos has got some major weapons but he’s going to have to impose himself on these guys—not just physically with his serves, forehand or attacking more, or whatever tactics you’ve come up with, but he’s got to show these guys that he wants it more than these guys. And that’s hard to do, because they want it a lot.”

There is no doubt that Raonic has all the weapons in the game to win multiple grand slam titles and last summer proved that when he reached the final of Wimbledon, losing to Andy Murray in the final. However McEnroe is right that he lacks a bit of passion and mental structure if he wants to lift one of these trophies, especially when playing world class players such as Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. So we will have to wait and see if McEnroe or anyone else can install that into Raonic’s machine, if this happens this could be a key element in him winning his maiden major title.

Milos Raonic is currently recovering from injury after suffering a hamstring injury at the Delray Beach Open.
