Jo Wilfried Tsonga has become father for the first time in his career. His girlfriend Noura El Shewk gave birth to their first child. After enjoying the next weeks with his family the 30th French player will make his return for the Davis Cup quarter final against Great Britain fro 7th to 9th April or in the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 from 15th April. Tsonga has enjoyed a good start to his season winning two back-to-back titles in Rotterdam and Marseille. Last year he reached the semifinal in the Principality, the best result achieved during the clay season in 2016.
Tsonga’s Loic Corteau spoke to the French newspaper L’Equipe about the chance to see Tsonga playing in the Davis Cup match against Great Britain. The deadline to announce nominees will be next Tuesday.
“Jo wants to stay with his girlfriend because it is their first child. It’s something that I completely understand. Jo told us that he wants to play”, said Corteau.
