Mischa Zverev advances into the second week of a grand slam for the first time after 6-1 4-6 6-3 6-0 win over Malek Jaziri

This match was an opportunity for both men to make the second week of a grand slam for the first time. Who had the nerve and who had the desire to make history? The first set showed it was the German who was willing to be the aggressor and earn his place in the second week as he broke three times en route to taking the first set 6-1. The Tunisian needed to adapt to Mischa’s serve and volley tactics quickly if he was to advance into the fourth round.

That’s exactly what he did in the second set as he broke in the very first game for a 1-0 lead. The world number 56 then built on his early break as he raced into a 5-1 lead. However the unique German was determined not to lose the second set as he broke back to close the gap to 5-3. Unfortunately for the world number 50 it wasn’t enough as the Tunisian would close out the set to love and seal the second set 6-4. The match was level at 1 set all. Did Zverev have enough in the energy reserves to regain the momentum in this match?

The early stages of the third set suggested that his energy was spent as Jaziri broke again early in the set for a 1-0 lead. However sloppy errors from the Tunisian allowed Zverev back in the match. In the sixth game the German broke to level the set at 3-3 and then he would punish Jaziri again in the eight game by breaking and leading 5-3 in the third set. Zverev closed out the third set to 15 to lead the match by 2 sets to 1.

The fourth set was all one way traffic as Mischa Zverev used his agressive forehands and big serves to break three times and seal the match 6-1 4-6 6-3 6-0 in 2 hours and 21 minutes. This was a match where both players dominated in different parts of the match, however Zverev proved that he was the most consistent in the match and that proved to be the key for the 29 year old German. Also Jaziri hitting 46 unforced errors, twice as many as Zverev, is simply not good enough when we are getting into the third round of a grand slam. Mischa Zverev will now play Andy Murray or Sam Querrey in round 4.
