Venezuelan coach Dani Vallverdu has talked about his relationship with Grigor Dimitrov. Vallverdu, has been part of Dimitrov’s team since 2016.
Above all, Grigor is a hard worker’, ‘Since we’ve been together, he’s invested a lot . I’m very satisfied with his way of getting involved. I don’t need to push him. He’s understood that if you put everything on the table, getting results is easier. He’s someone who got into the top 10 despite the weight of expectations. Perhaps he didn’t do everything afterwards to succeed, which is more difficult. It’s part of his apprenticeship.”
Vallverdu is just the latest in a number of coaches who have tried to coax the undoubted talent out of the Bulgarian, with Patrick Mouratoglou, Peter McNamara, Roger Rasheed, Franco Davin, and Peter Lundgren all already counted amongst the length list of coaches who have worked with Dimitrov in the past.
Vallverdu compared Dimitrov to players he has worked with in the past, ” I’ve had the chance to work with Murray and Berdych, who are surely among the players who work hardest on the tour. I know the professionalism that’s necessary to stay at the top, and I could transfer my knowledge to Grigor. It was well accepted; he was very receptive.’
The results of the partnership are already noticeable, with Dimitrov reaching his first quarter-final or better showing at a grand slam since Wimbledon in 2014. Dimitrov will face the in-form Belgian David Goffin in the quarter-finals with Goffin seeded slightly higher at eleven against Dimitrov’s fifteen.
