Kei Nishikori, David Ferrer and Janko Tipsarevic are confirmed to play the Argentina Open in 2017, while home hero Juan Martin Del Potro will not take part to the event.
The Atp 250 tournament will take place from the 13th to 19th of February on the red clay courts of the Buenos Aires Tennis Club. two weeks after the end of the Australian Open. The official entry list is coming out in five weeks.
World’s number 4 Kei Nishikori from Japan will play Buenos Aires for the second time in his career, after reaching the quarterfinals in 2012.
“I have great memories of that year and I cannot wait to coming back to play in Buenos Aires in front of the Argentinian crowd” Nishikori said.
Spaniard veteran David Ferrer, who won the tournament three times in his career (2013, 2013 and 2014), will be back in 2017, as well as Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic, who has been given a wild-card.
“I am really happy to be able to play Buenos Aires once again. I feel like at home there and I hope to have a good week” Ferrer said.
Though, former champion Dominic Thiem and home hope Juan Martin Del Potro will not take part to the event this year, as they have decided to play the ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam on indoor hard.
Tournament’s president Miguel Nido said during the press conference: “We really hope to see Kei again in Buenos Aires. He played here many years ago but he has really improved in the last few seasons, so I am sure we will see his best tennis in February.”
