Former world’s number 91 Huta Galung decided to call it a career after falling outside the top 400.
The 31 year-old Huta Galung could not afford financially his tennis career anymore and could not overtake a groin injury, so he made the choice.
The talented Dutch player, who played an all court tennis, reached the 95th place in singles and the 63rd in doubles. He won 10 singles tournaments on the Challenger Tour and 18 on the Itf tour, but his best title came in doubles in Atp 500 Barcelona 2014, alongside Stephane Robert. He also played in the Davis Cup team for 10 years.
After falling out of the top 400 in 2015, he could not recover in 2016, where he won three futures but did not play many tournaments because of injuries. He will retire after the Dutch Championships.
“This is the right moment” he said, “During a tournament in Greece I took the decision because I suffered another groin injury. I will see what the future brings.”
Huta Galung, who trained with Andy Murray in Spain when he was a teenager, was also known for being one of the most beautiful tennis players on the tour. Here is the match point of his title in Barcelona.
