After a three-set loss in Vienna qualifying, the British 26 year-old came back to the Itf circuit with a title in Kuwait.
Marcus Willis, who had played just three tournaments this year, came back this week in a 10,000$ futures in Meshref (Kuwait). After winning three matches easily, he defeated first seed Perez-Sanz 6-3 6-3 in the semifinals and third seed Daniel Altmaier 6-3 7-6(8) in the final. This is his first singles title since May 2015.
During his nice week, the “Cartman” did not lose a set, dropping his serve only once. Though, he needed an impressive turnaround in the final, where he was 6-3 down in the second set tie-break, before saving four set points and converting his second match point on 9-8. He also won the the doubles tournament with Altmaier, beating De Valk and Joncour 6-1 6-1 in the last round.
Willis will earn 18 atp points and will come back into the top 450 in the singles ranking. He might play another tournament before the end of the year, as he has entered an Itf in Egypt (scheduled in two weeks).
