Roger Federer will make his eagerly-awaited come-back after five months of absence at this year’s IPTL, the International Tennis Premier League in Asia next month.
The news comes directly from the official Twitter account of the IPTL. The Swiss player will be the star of the Indian Aces team, which will also be composed by Feliciano Lopez, Ivan Dodig, Eugenie Bouchard, Thomas Enqvist, Mark Philippoussis, Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna.
Federer is expected to play in the Indian leg of the tournament in Hyderabad from 9th to 10th December and maybe on 11th December, should his team reach the leg’s final. Federer’s team will be facing Singapore Slammers on the 9th of December and UAE Royals on the 10th
The 17-time Grand Slam champion has not played since his five-set defeat in the Wimbledon semifinal against Milos Raonic on 8th July.
Serena Williams will also play in the IPTL for the Singapore Slammers. She has not played since losing against Karolina Pliskova in the US Open semifinal.
Defending champions Singapore Slammers will be bidding to win their second consecutive title one year after beating the Indian Aces (2014 winners) 26-21.
The IPTL has been reduced from five to four teams, after the Philippine Mavericks dropped out. The league will take place in three venues. Saitaima and Singapore will host the first two legs before heading to Hyderabad, where the final will take place.
