Amelie Mauresmo will announce on Monday that she has resigned from her role as the captain of the French Fed Cup team according to reports.
French sports website L’Equipe has reported that the former world No.1 will hold a news conference in which she will formally announce her resignation. The decision comes a day after France lost in the final of the Fed Cup to the Czech Republic. The team missed out of the title due to Barbora Strycova and Karolina Pliskova winning the decisive match in the two-day event.
Mauresmo has been the captain of the French team since 2012 and guided the team to their first final in the event for 11 years. Since 2013, France has achieved a win-loss of 5-2 in the tournament, producing wins over former champions USA and Italy (twice).
The decision comes at the end of Mauresmo’s contract with the French Tennis Federation. It has been reported that she conducted a meeting with the Fed Cup players on Monday morning prior to formalising her decision.
Earlier this year the two-time grand slam champion also ended her collaboration with Andy Murray after two years together. Since then, Murray has returned to former coach Ivan Lendl.
The official announcement from the former Wimbledon champion will take place at the Paris’ Roland Garros tennis headquarters on Monday afternoon at 16:00 local time. The French Tennis Federation has decline to comment further on the matter.
