Japanese 34 year-old Hiroki Kondo called it a career after his last tournament in Toyota.

Kondo, who holds a best ranking of 275 in singles and of 179 in doubles, played his only Grand Slam event in Melbourne 2014 (losing in the first round of qualifying) and took part to one Davis Cup tie. He won three Challenger tournaments in doubles (two on hard and one on carpet) and six Itf tournaments in singles.

After fourteen seasons and many injuries, he decided to put an end to his career. His last unlucky episode happened last year, on February: he qualified for the Kyoto Challenger and during his second round match he injured his calf on 6-4 5-4 40-0. He still won that match but was forced to miss the following two months. He played his last tourney in Toyota, where he reached the doubles semifinals alongside the fellow Japanese veteran Takao Suzuki.

Kondo is also known for his old-style tennis game, with a good serve and a good volley. He had the chance to play just three grass-court tournaments, getting one title and one final in singles.

“I have the feeling I could have given the 90% more in my career, but I would like to say thank you to everybody for this opportunity” he said. “I cannot find a good condition and my last results have been not good, so I have taken this decision.”
