It was a difficult day at the Prudential Hong Kong due to rain which forced the organizers to postpone three of the four second-round matches scheduled on Wednesday. Angelique Kerber had to battle past Louisa Chirico in the first three games of the third set before rain forced the postponement of the match at the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open. The Australian and US Open champion raced to a 4-1 lead after a series of unforced errors from Chirico. The German cruised through to 6-2 in the first set. After a short rain delay Chirico got the break at 2-3 in the second set. Chirico was serving for the set at 40-30 as the match was interrupted for two hours and a hour by rain. She held her nerve to force the match to the third set.
The first three games of the decider went on serve. Chirico had to save a break point before bad weather forced the postponement of the match until Thursday.
In the only completed match defending champion Jelena Jankovic won the all- Serbian match against Alexandra Krunic in straight sets. Krunic dropped her serve as she made two double faults and two weak shots into the net to give Jankovic a 5-4 edge.
Both players traded breaks twice at the start of the second set. Krunic sent a drop-shot wide and a backhand into the net to drop her serve in the seventh game. Jankovic held her serve before getting another break to secure her spot in the third round.
Daria Gavrilova was leading by a set and a break against Katerina Siniakova as the match was postponed due to rain.
