Agnieszka Radwanska followed up her title in Beijing last weekend with a 6-1 6-2 win over Tatjana Maria in a one-sided match at the Tianjin Open. Radwanska served well and faced just one break point. She won more than 50 percent of the points on Maria’s serve to convert four of the eight point chances.
Radwanska broke twice in the second and fourth games to cruise to a comfortable 6-1 in the first set. The Pole got a double break in the third and eighth games and served out for the match at deuce.
Svetlana Kuznetsova battled past Donna Vekic 7-5 6-4 in one hour and 38 minutes. In a match featuring a total of 18 break points Kuznetsova converted five of her eleven break point chances. Vekic broke three times from her seven chances. Vekic got an early break to take a 2-0 but Kuznetsova fought back by winning five games in a row to take a 5-3 lead. She earned a set point in the 10th game as she was serving for the set but failed to convert it. Vekic broke back to draw level to 5-5 but dropped her serve in the next game. Kuznetsova served out for the set in the 12th game. Both players traded breaks at the start of the start of the second set. They were level until the ninth game when Kuznetsova broke serve for 5-4. Vekic earned two break points in the final game but Kuznetsova saved them to close out the match.
This year’s Tokyo Toray Pan Pacific Open Naomi Osaka beat Lucie Hradecka 6-2 7-6 (7-4) to reach the quarter finals.
