Andy Murray was a man of few words as he made his way to his after match press conference following his marathon loss to Juan Martin del Potro in the Davis Cup.

After five hours and seven minutes of action, the Brit succumbed to the spirited play and tenacity of his opponent. The loss was only the third time in Murray’s career that he has been defeated in the singles in the Davis Cup. Regardless of the defeat, the world no.2 embarks upon tomorrow’s doubles encounter confident that he had played at his best.

“Nothing, I mean it was very fine margins.” He swiftly responded when asked what the difference was between him and del Potro in the match.
“That’s what happens in tennis and sports sometimes. He played better in the fifth set, but there wasn’t that much difference in the match.”

The loss comes a month after the Brit defeated Del Potro to win gold at the Rio Olympics. A lot has happened since then with both players reaching the last eight of the US Open. Reluctantly comparing Glasgow to Rio, Murray believes their latest clash was of better quality.

“It’s difficult to say because it’s completely different conditions. Maybe the quality of this match was a bit better today.” He admitted.

Enduring such a testing encounter, uncertainty has been raised about Murray’s ability to play in the doubles tomorrow alongside his brother Jamie. Even the world No.2 is unsure about what his intentions are.

“I have to see tomorrow when I wake up and make a decision from there.” The 29-year-old said about playing in the doubles.
“I’ve never played a match that long (before).

Shortly before exiting the media section, a disappointed Murray insisted that he is upbeat about his team’s chances as he reflects on a day that he hopes will not become a regular occurrence in the future. Murray is certainly down, but he is from from out.
