Ying-Ying Duan fought back from a set down to clinch her first career WTA title with a 1-6 6-4 6-2 win over Vania King. Duan could not hold any of her four service games in the opening set to lose 1-6. King got her fifth consecutive break in the second game of the second set to open up a 2-0 lead but Duan broke straight back in the next game for 1-2 and saved six break points in her next three service games. Duan got the break to love in the ninth game and served out for the set on her second set point.
The home player started the decisive set with a break to love and never looked back . King saved a double break point in the third game. Duan broke serve in the seventh game at deuce. Duan held her service game to love and sealed the win with an ace on the match point.
“I am very happy to win my first ever WTA singles title, especially with my low back injury and the hot weather here. Vania played really well in the first set. My coach game me some advice during the second set. He asked me to improve my speed a bit and I did so. I didn’t expect so many fans to come today. I was really glad to have them cheer for me. Their support helped me get through”, said Duan.
