Vania King, world number 106 in the WTA Ranking, beat Risa Ozaki in straight sets 6-2 6-2 at the WTA International Tournament in Nanchang in their first ever head-to-head match setting up a final against Ying Ying Duan, who defeated Misa Eguchi in the other semifinal 6-4 7-6 (9-7). King got an early break on her first break point. In the next game King held her service game at deuce. Ozaki saved three break points but dropped her service game in the fifth game on the first break point to trail 1-4. King held her next two service games to close out the first set.
King got a double break at the start of the second set to open up a 3-0 lead. Ozaki earned two break points in the second and fourth games of the second set, but King saved them. King earned two match points in the seventh game but Ozaki saved them. The US player closed out the match in the eighth game.
King set up a final against home favourite and world number 163 Ying-Ying Duan, who beat Misa Eguchi in straight set. Eguchi earned three break points in the ninth game, but Duan saved them. The Chinese player went up 40-15 and broke serve on her first set point. Both players traded breaks in the second, fifth, seventh and eighth games in a tight second set which came down to the tie-break. Both players held their serve only five times in the tie-break. Eguchi failed to convert a set point. Duan served out for the match 9-7 to reach the final.
King and Duan will meet for the first time in their careers.
