Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori advance to the third round in Cincinnati

The top five seeds are in action on a busy Wednesday at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, a ATP Masters 1000 Tournament. The line-up is led by Andy Murray, who won two titles in Cincinnati in 2008 and 2011 and clinched his second Olympic singles title and his second Wimbledon crown this summer, Stan Wawrinka, Rafa Nadal, who won the olympic doubles gold, Milos Raonic and olympic singles bronze medallist Kei Nishikori.

Wawrinka, who is making his return after two weeks of rest resumed his second-round match match against Jared Donaldson, who won the opening set 6-2 before the Swiss player took a 3-0 lead in the second set when the match was suspended due to rain.

Donaldson got a double break in the third and seventh games to win the opening set 6-2. Wawrinka fought back by breaking in the second game to open up a 2-0 lead. Donaldson broke back in the seventh game to claw his way back to 3-4 but Wawrinka broke again to love in the eighth game. The Swiss player saved three break points to hold his service game for 6-3. Wawrinka did not face any break points and clinched the only break of the decisive set in the fifth game to win the match 2-6 6-3 6-4. Wawrinka will face either Feliciano Lopez or Grigor Dimitrov.

Wawrinka is making his 10th appearance in Cincinnati and reached the semifinals in 2012 as his best result in this tournament.

Kei Nishikori beat Mikhail Youzhny 6-3 6-2 to reach the third round. The first set went on serve until the seventh game when Wawrinka rallied from 30-40 to break serve at deuce. The Japanese player held his service game before getting his second break in the ninth game to wrap up the first set 6-3. Nishikori got two more breaks in the second and eighth games to win the second set 6-2. The Japanese star fended off all the six break points he faced. He will take on either David Goffin or Bernard Tomic.
