Martina Hingis has confirmed reports that she has ended her high profile doubles partnership with India’s Sania Mirza.

The doubles pairing are currently ranked No.1 in the world and have won three grand slam titles since last year. Together they dominated the tour at the start of the season by winning 41 consecutive matches before their run came to an end at the Doha Open in February.

During the grass-court season Hingis and Mirza experienced a series of disappointments as they failed to progress beyond the quarter-finals at any tournament. Then at the Canadian Open they were knocked out in the last eight by Christine McHale and Asia Muhammad. Following their recent below-par results, Hingis have said that they have both decided to go separate ways.

“After three Grand Slam victories and eleven WTA doubles titles together, we have mutually agreed that we would each be open to playing with other players for the remainder of the season.” Hingis wrote on Facebook.
“Perhaps, because of our great past results, we have had very high expectations from our partnership and unfortunately did not get the results we desired recently. We would like to clarify that it was a totally professional decision based purely on our recent results.”

Despite ending their partnership, the two tennis stars will stay play together at one event later this year. 35-year-old Hingis have confirmed that the two will return to the WTA Finals in Singapore to defend their title.

“We also look forward to defending our title in the year-end WTA Finals in Singapore in October for which Santina has already qualified.” The 35-year-old said.

Since March 2015, Hingis and Mirza have reached 17 WTA finals, winning titles in 14. It is currently unknown as to who Hingis or Mirza will now be teaming up with on the tour.
