Defending champions Great Britain will play their Davis Cup semifinal against Argentina at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Venue is the same location when the British team won their 2015 Davis Cup semifinal, defeating Australia 3-2. Headlined by world No.2 Andy Murray, the British team is aiming to win their 11th title in the competition and only their third since 1936. Standing in their way will be Argentina, who defeated Italy in the quarter-finals.

Murray’s record at the Emirates Arena is an impressive one with him yet to lose a match in front of his home audience. The Wimbledon champion was absent during his team’s last eight win over Serbia, however, he is expected to return to the competition for Britain’s upcoming clash.

British team captain Leon Smith, who was born in Glasgow,  has spoken of his delight about his team returning to action at the 13,000-capacity Emirates Arena.

“We are delighted to be returning to the Emirates Arena in Glasgow. As the Aegon GB Davis Cup Team, we all have amazing memories of our times there last year.” Smith said.

September’s tie will be the first time that Britain has hosted Argentine since 1989. In their current head-to-head, Argentina leads 3-1 and won their last encounter in 2008. Britain’s only win against the South American country occurred almost 90 years ago in 1928.

“Argentina will be a tough tie, they have world class talent throughout their side, but I know whoever pulls on that GB shirt will give everything for the team and I’m sure there will be some incredible tennis for the fans.” Smith said about the upcoming tie.

The Davis Cup semi-finals will take place between September 16-18. It is the second consecutive year that both countries reached the last four of the team event.

In the other semifinal, France will travel to Croatia to play at a yet to be confirmed venue.
